Finally, she blooms! Verbascum nigrum “Dark Mullein” was purchased from Annie’s Annuals in a 4 in. pot and planted in the cottage garden last fall along with Verbascum chaixii ‘Album’ and Verbascum hybrid ‘Southern Charm.’ As mentioned in earlier posts, Album bloomed in November then was brutally ripped from the cottage garden. She rebounded and has been blooming non-stop since May. Southern Charm also began blooming in November and hasn’t really stopped. Alas, I’d almost given up on Dark M. She never really grew, then leaves started dying off, then out came a few more anemic leaves, and then one day, bam! She hit a growth spurt. Now her rosette of leaves are full in beautiful, not a bug bite on them and she’s finally thrown up not one, but three flower spikes. Yes, I think she was worth waiting for. I’ll upload more photos as she fills out.
